Motivational Poem: Let's Be Gay
62
Time it was when being gay meant merriment and cheer
Quiet far from the dreadful word we now call fear
Homos simply meant any living or extinct member of the family Hominidae
Not exclusively pointed to those whose lifestyle many would disagree
With this, a thought comes to me today
Why not choose to simply be gay?
Man used to be an adult male person in society
Far from the animal they call chauvinist in some glossary
Woman was defined as the adult female person in the land
Not a product sold in magazines, television, films or broad bands
I wonder then if it’s appropriate to say
Some things are here to stay --- let’s just be gay
Colored was associated with visual arts on print and silver screen
Not black or brown or yellow as now it would seem
Religion, as I recall, defined a people’s belief on a divine presence
Not a division disallowing God’s awesome Omnipresence
With this, I now would like to state
Let’s all be happy anyway and be gay
Human race used to be defined as the people living on planet earth
Truly not a competition on who gets the best and who takes the dirt
News then were information of recent and important events
Not at all exclusive to issues that shout of sex and violence
And thus, I’d like to ask if I may
Why sow fear when it’s easier to just be gay
Amidst the confusion and fear we face in our personal lives
May choices find respect and honor in our hearts and minds
Let unconditional love be our guide in building relationships
That acceptance become the embrace strengthening our friendship
If you agree with what this hub is trying to say
Please start your comment with Yes, let’s be gay!

This hub touched me, went straight to my heart. Its a message that encourages unity and not the separation created by the mind/fears of mankind.
On a humorous note, when I was in high school I didn't know what "I am proud to be gay" meant. Didn't know it was about sexual preference; I thought it meant to be happy, so I went around for a day or so telling my friends I was proud to be gay! It was explained to me what the word in the context meant. I was fluent in English but its not my first language so certain expressions didn't seem to reach me and I was honestly a very innocent teenager, too innocent and sheltered, but life wisened me up!
Thumbs up!
Yes let's be gay!!!
Nice you've conked out the tension by publishing this one. Thanks! =)

Yes, let's be gay! I'm jumping on this bandwagon, for sure.
What a wonderful light you shed on these expressions of thought-less disrespect. To me, this says it all: "That acceptance become the embrace strengthening our friendship."
Thumbs up, Daisy.
Let's be gay! Now with that being said, I can laugh with joy. Hahahaha I was also chuckling at your comment about VioletSun and me being the same. It is wonderful to see another perspective to things. Thanks dayzeebee! Hugs...

Love this, Daisy. You're right, let's all be gay! Such a sweet, loving person you are. I'm proud to know you.
I must bid you good-night now but wanted to make sure I dropped by to read yours and Michelle's hubs before I went to bed. I just knew there'd be something special to read in them both.
Nighty-night hugs.
It is so nice to be gay after reading your poem. Thanks Daisy.
It is so good to read such an upbeat and positive hub one that is for unity and love there is already too much negative stuff going on in the world it is good to see people going against the flow. I am happy to say there seems to be many people here at hubpages prepared to go against the flow of negativity and I think that is why hubpages feels such a friendly and encouraging place to belong to. A nice Gay hub
